Dr. Maria's Top 5 Tips: On Losing Weight
*Mark down everything you eat and how much you exercise for a week. It will help show you where you can make improvements in your lifestyle and habits.
*Ask a friend to join you in your goal. Whenever you know someone else is counting on you to go for a walk with them, or to turn down that piece of yummy cake, it makes it harder to not do what you know you need to do.
*Reduce your portions. There are no bad foods, just bad amounts. Eat more fruits and vegetables if you feel hungry. Eat meats and starchy foods in moderation. Save desserts for just a once-in-a-while treat.
*Increase your physical activity. You don't necessarily need to go to the gym. You can incorporate it into your every day routine -- take the steps instead of the elevator, park at the far end of the parking lot, walk across the office instead of emailing, play tag with your kids, sing and dance with the radio.
*Assume it's going to take a while. There's no quick and healthy way to lose weight -- it's a long-term commitment and a lifestyle change if you want to keep the weight off.
