Down-to-earth weight-loss tips from Richard Simmons
Limit portions: Buy a measuring cup and spoon. It's not the latest fad, but it's the only one that works, he says.
Write a grocery list: And stick to it. Don't buy foods on a whim that will make you veer off your charted course. Do buy fresh foods, not processed ones.
Eat salads: You get vitamins and minerals and lose weight. He eats one for dinner three times a week, he says.
No fad diets: There's no quick fix.
Be careful in restaurants: Ask for plain vegetables instead of ones that are covered with butter or cream sauce. And be careful ordering meat because restaurant portions are huge.
Exercise: Every day you eat is a day you should exercise, he says. Breaking up your workout into 20- or 30-minute portions is ''perfectly acceptable.''
