Officer Fired For Lying About Weight-Loss Surgery
A Portland police officer lost her job, after lying about her weight-loss surgery.
Officer Christina Nelson said she claimed she was having gallbladder surgery in 2006 because she was embarrassed about the stomach-band surgery.
A police emergency fund awarded Nelson $1,000 to help cover costs for the gallbladder surgery.
The Multnomah County district attorney's office declined to prosecute Nelson on fraud charges because she didn't sign any paper making a false statement.
Plus, the fund likely would have paid her expenses had she been truthful.
Nelson ended up reimbursing the $1,000.
She says the firing disappointed her, and the Portland police union plans to file a grievance.
