The Las Palmas Del Sol Weight Loss program is hosting its third annual fashion show at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Marriott Hotel, 1600 Airway.

The show is part of several activities that the Del Sol Bariatric Center offers to make the weight-loss transition easier for the patients.

The show will feature 17 female models and six male models. All are ex-patients and have had either lap band or gastric bypass surgery.

"The models range from patients we had six months ago to ones that we had 3 years ago," said Blanka Chavez, dietitian at Del Sol Medical Center and coordinator for the fashion show.

The models will be sporting casual and evening clothing provided by Dillard's and will be cheered on by their families and friends as they celebrate their accomplishments.

Norma Avila, a second time model, had gastric bypass surgery three years ago and has lost more than 100 pounds.

Avila said the reason why she enjoyed being a part of this event was that this type of activity gives other patients a chance to see and bond with people who went through the same life changing experience that they did.

"It is very nice to see that there are a lot of us and we all are going through changes," she said. "I feel like doing this gives me a chance to give back to the community what I couldn't give before."
