A San Antonio woman is on the cover of People Magazine this week. She is not a celebrity, but someone who has earned her notice by losing more than 100 pounds.

At her heaviest, Kim Scheffler, a mother and businessperson, found little time to concentrate on her health and as a result her weight crept up.

"Very little time between the business and the children and all of a sudden, boom, I'm 237 pounds," she said. "I was having a hard time breathing. My joints were hurting. I was sleeping all the time. I had no energy."

Scheffler decided to reclaim her health and her looks with the aid of LA Weight Loss - a counseling and diet center. She checked in with a counselor three times a week and radically changed what she ate and how she moved. The result was a steady weight loss of three pounds a week for nine months.

"I didn't ever imagine I was going to get down to a size 4 - 134 pounds," Scheffler said.

That kind of success is so amazing, it landed Scheffler on the cover of People Magazine in a sexy swimsuit sharing the limelight with Ashlee Simpson.

Scheffler is one of five women across the country that lost more than 100 pounds featured in the issue. Now she makes sure she takes time from her busy schedule to maintain her impressive new figure.

"You have to learn to balance your life, and that's really what it is about. Sometimes it's hard," she said.

Scheffler shows off her "before" size 22 pants and hopes her success will spur others to action.

"If I can do that by being on the cover of People Magazine and showing them at age 47 I can still wear a bikini, I didn't use to, you can do it," she said.

Scheffler has kept the weight off for almost a year, partly due to an exercise routine. Among other activities, she runs four miles a day, four times a week.
