Better Business Bureau: LA Weight Loss Ctr. in Jacksonville Closed
The Better Business Bureau says sources tell them the LA Weight Loss center in Jacksonville is closed. You may remember a few months ago the centers in New Bern and Greenville closing. When the New Bern center shut down management in Jacksonville said those clients' contracts would be honored at their location. It seems a lot of customers are without a center to go to and short a big chunk of change.
Tamara Todd says, "They'll be given their money back, they'll be given their food back, if they have anything coming to them, they'll get it. If they don't want to go to a location that's been provided for them we have online programs that they can utilize."
That was in February. Todd, a former operations manager of the New Bern LA Weight Loss Center who also worked at the Jacksonville location told us New Bern LA Weight Loss clients would be taken care of in Jacksonville.
Now it seems a different story is being told. The Jacksonville center doesn't exactly look like it's open for business. A woman who says she is a client tells Nine On Your Side she went to the center on Friday July 11th and no one mentioned anything about closing down. She says she went to the center on Monday and no one was there.
And that's the case three days later. We called LA Weight Loss from Greenville and Jacksonville and this is what we got.
We also left several messages with the company but no response. Just a quick web search for LA Weight Loss Center complaints shows dozens of clients warning others that LA Weight Loss took their money, skipped town and left them with no options.
On consumeraffairs.com you'll also see that Oregon's Attorney General's Office sued LA Weight Loss and an Oregon franchisee for unlawful trade practices.
Until we hear from LA Weight Loss, according to those who claim to be former clients, it appears the company is better at helping people lose money than weight.
The North Carolina Attorney General's Office says their Consumer Protection Division is following up on calls and complaints about LA Weight Loss Centers closing, particularly in Jacksonville and Wilmington. They encourage you to file complaints with the office if you feel you have been a victim. Eyewitness News 9 will continue to follow this story as it develops.
